Hands On Kitchen Knife Skills & Maintenance Workshop for Eight with Master Bladesmith Bob Kramer. And One Shun Bob Kramer 6" Chef's Knife.* (see video below)
On Saturday evening, February 5, 2011, eight people will have the extraordinary opportunity to have a hands on workshop with Master Bladesmith (one of only 104 in the world) Bob Kramer at the beautiful home of Skip and Gloria Strait. (On the water on Cooper Point.) Bring your favorite knife. You'll learn how to use it and maintain it properly. You'll dice and chop and do the kitchen work to create gourmet hors d'oeuvres, which you will enjoy with fine wine... after you play with knives!
All eight participants will receive a chef's apron proclaiming:
Is this a dagger which I see before me?
– Macbeth".
One of the eight will win a Shun Bob Kramer 6" Chef's Knife from Sur La Table ($325 value) and walk away knowing how to use it and how to take care of it.
Bob Kramer has been a magician, a Ringling Brothers clown, a waiter, a cook, and a student of many things. He is now one of 70 master bladesmiths in the country and the only one specializing in kitchen cutlery. His custom knives sell for $2,400 each. Enthusiasts will wait up to three years for a knife, but the order list is now closed. The last one to sell on ebay went for $12,000.
Get the picture? This guy's serious! But he's also fun! For a better picture, check out the CBS News video on Bob. It's amazing!
Bob also has a line of Shun Bob Kramer kitchen knives sold through Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma. The 6" Chef's knife is valued at $325. When he gives workshops on knife skills and maintenance all over the country at Sur La Table and Williams-Sonoma, people flock to pay $100 per person for the opportunity. They are not "hands on" workshops. They are "sit and watch."
