The Ladies of the Camellias The beautiful French actress Sarah Bernhardt was the first international superstar. Her arch rival was the exotic Italian Eleanora Duse. Both divas were lauded for their (very different) portrayals of the consumptive Marguerite in Alexander Dumas’ popular play, The Lady of the Camellias. One day in June of 1897, both find themselves and their companies held for ransom by a Russian anarchist in Sarah’s Parisian theater. Lillian Groag’s hilarious comedy on the meeting of the two brilliant uber-egos is an insightful look at art, politics, and what it means to “Act.” Select date to buy tickets online! March 2007
